where i work

upstairs at the barnes and noble at georgia tech

Bookstores are my crack; I can't stay away and always want more. An afternoon is never enough.

My husband's office is only two blocks away from the Georgia Tech campus;  while I can't say I've explored the campus, I can say I know the bookstore.

The downstairs portion is mostly college sweatshirts, and an Apple store. The upstairs corner holds textbooks and a sundries shop. But one corner of the upstairs is heaven, with floor to ceiling windows, tables and cozy chairs.

I sit down to write (or read), and immediately, I'm in the zone.

The  other Barnes and Noble, the one on Peachtree in Buckhead is always crowded. I can't find a seat anywhere at 8 a.m. or 8 a.m., but the Georgia Tech lounge is always waiting.

I wrote i am a telescope: science poetry at the banquette pictured above. I edited Wanton: Stories of Wonderfully Shameless Women in the very last chair, by the window.

early morning at the georgia tech bookstore

I'm writing this, at this very moment, at a quiet table at the edge. One foot in the lounge, one foot in the sundry section. And my head lost in thought.

Where do you work?
