on sundays we make lists no. 5 - favorite books
It's a list of favorite books in week five of the series, on sundays we make lists, a project designed for fellow list lovers like myself. Get this week's list here.
This week's list is books: what we love to read...what worlds do we love to explore, again and again? I notice my list is filled with stories of strong female protagonists...I'm not much for a damsel in distress story. Nothing against damsels or any distress they might find themselves encountering, of course.
Here's my list (in no particular order):
to kill a mockingbird by harper lee
stardust by neil gaiman
their eyes were watching god by zora neale hurston
anna karenina by leo tolstoy
never let me go by haruko
waiting by ha jin
passing by nella larsen
the dorothy parker collection by...dorothy parker
nine stories by jd salinger
the bell jar by sylvia plath
the series of unfortunate events by lemony snicket
pride and prejudice by jane austen
alice in wonderland by lewis carroll
the magnificent ambersons by booth tarkington
the age of innocence by edith wharton
the handmaid's tale by margaret atwood
gone girl by gillian flynn
life after life by kate atkinson
girl on the train by paula hawkins
room by emma donoghue
a kiss before dying by ira levin
dash and lily's book of dares by david levithan and rachel cohn
pride and prejudice and zombies by jane austen and seth grahame-smith
the little mermaid by hans christian anderson
What I will reread:
The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath. This gorgeous 50th anniversary edition is at the top of my wish list.
